Please note information specific to WA:

  • All pregnant women should have syphilis erology testing at the booking, 28 and 36-week visits as a minimum, to prevent congenital syphilis. More frequent testing may be indicated for pregnant/ birthing women on a case-by-case basis if they have STI symptoms, condomless sex and/or partner change in between these testing intervals.

Information specific to Goldfields and the Kimberley region only

In accordance with WA's Structured Administration Supply Arrangements, uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhoea locally acquired in the Goldfields and Kimberley regions can be treated with a single directly observed oral dose of:

  • azithromycin (1g)

  AND

  • amoxycillin (3g)

  AND

  • probenecid (1g)

This treatment is appropriate as >95% of gonorrhoea infections acquired in these regions are susceptible to penicillin.
