TravelSmart

TravelSmart helps people make decisions on how they commute to their workplace. It encourages people to use their car less, and to choose alternatives such as carpooling, cycling, public transport and walking where possible.

Small changes can make a big difference in helping to reduce the number of single occupant drivers that travel to a health site. TravelSmart is mainly focused on staff and looks at the way they commute to work.

With increased information and encouragement, many trips to work can be changed.

To help you make the switch to sustainable travel, TravelSmart Coordinators will implement a number of incentives, help answer questions and give out information. They will be available to speak to any staff about alternatives that will be provided to make sustainable travel choices easier and more attractive.

Public transport

Corporate SmartRider Card

Hospital employees can take advantage of the Corporate SmartRider Card and save on public transport costs to and from work.

The card is a public transport incentive scheme in which staff receive an 18.75 per cent contribution to their travel expenses from the Metropolitan Access and Parking Department (MAPD), in addition to the 20 per cent discount already provided by Transperth.

To be eligible, employees must work at one of the metropolitan hospital sites that are currently covered by the Access and Parking Strategy. This includes:

  • Fremantle Hospital
  • King Edward Memorial Hospital
  • Perth Children’s Hospital
  • Royal Perth Hospital
  • Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
  • Fiona Stanley Hospital

Only WA Health employees working at the above sites will be eligible for the financial incentive – see the Corporate SmartRider guidelines (PDF 417KB) for details of eligibility.

How to apply

Employees must read the Corporate SmartRider guidelines (PDF 417KB) before applying.

The Corporate SmartRider application form (PDF 411KB) can be downloaded and completed, however an appointment must be made with a member of MAPD to go through the travel pattern section and to receive your Corporate SmartRider Card.

Please email travelsmart@health.wa.gov.au or phone 1800 753 191 (option 2) for an appointment or further details.
