The Office of the Chief Health Officer, Public Health Division, offers scholarships up to $5,000 per applicant, to Department of Health staff, HSP staff and staff of a contracted health entity to contribute towards the progression or completion of post-graduate or other relevant studies.
The aims of the scholarships are to:
- increase disaster management capacity in the health services sector;
- broaden the skill base of staff engaged in disaster management activities; and
- raise awareness of disaster management practices among staff working in the health sector.
The successful applicant may use the funding towards any of the courses, with a disaster management focus, being offered.
The following courses and programs are examples of courses that are eligible (note this list is not exhaustive):
- Graduate Certificate/Graduate Diploma/Master of Disaster Health Care – Flinders University
- Graduate Certificate/Graduate Diploma/Master of Disaster & Emergency Response - ECU/CQU
- Graduate Certificate/Graduate Diploma/Master of Emergency & Disaster Management - Charles Darwin University
- Graduate Certificate of Disaster Health and Humanitarian Assistance – James Cook University
- Master of Emergency Management - Charles Sturt University
- Advanced Diploma in Public Safety (Emergency Management) – various providers
Applicants may nominate alternative disaster management courses, including short courses, where it can be demonstrated that the course is relevant to their current area of work and the WA Health System.
