The Department of Health has set up a pop up COVID clinic in Maylands to help meet testing demands.
The clinic has been set up at The Rise, 28 Eighth Avenue, and will open at 5pm today. Testing is available until 10pm tonight.
The pop up clinic has parking behind the building and an air conditioned waiting area. Tomorrow’s opening hours will be 7am to 10pm (hours will be reviewed daily).
WA Health is urging people to consider testing venues other than the seven COVID clinics at public hospitals in the Perth metropolitan area.
The State Health Coordination Centre’s Incident Controller, Dr Robyn Lawrence said instead of queuing at hospital clinics, people could look at alternative testing venues, many of which have extended their opening hours to accommodate the demand.
COVID-19 testing is available at any of the private pathology providers (Australian Clinical Labs, Clinipath, Western Diagnostics), plus the Commonwealth’s Respiratory Clinics.
Dr Lawrence also stressed that people did not need to rush to be tested for COVID-19 unless they have symptoms.
“Priorities for testing include people with symptoms, those people who have been contacted by WA Health and asked to get a test, those who were at the listed venues at the times specified and Day 11 testing,” she said.
“If you are well and haven’t been to one of the listed locations at the times specified, you do not need to be tested.
“Please don’t queue in the heat – stay isolated at home and attend a clinic when demand has subsided.”
Prioritisation at clinics is also being given to older people and those with disabilities.
“We ask that people remain patient and show respect to staff and others waiting,” said Dr Lawrence.
All clinic hours and locations are listed on the healthywa.wa.gov.au website.
While some of these private clinics may require an appointment, no referral is required, and testing is free.
