COVID-19 update 31 March 2021

The Department of Health has reported four new cases of COVID-19 overnight.

The new cases are travellers from overseas – a mother in her 40s and her teenage son; a woman in her 20s; and another person in their 20s. All are now in hotel quarantine.

The State’s total number now stands at 942.

WA Health is monitoring 15 active cases of COVID-19 and 918 people have recovered from the virus in WA.

To date, the WA Department of Health has administered 50,731 COVID-19 vaccinations, including 6,70 people who have received both doses. Yesterday 3,030 people were vaccinated.

Yesterday, 504 people presented for testing at WA Health COVD clinics, 501 were assessed and 500 swabbed.

There have been 944,265  COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those, 135,405 were from regional WA.

To date, 38 cases of variant strains have been detected in Western Australia (27 of the B.1.1.7 strain and 11 of the B.1.351 strain).

Note: The cases of variant strains reported above are not new cases. Genome sequencing – to define the strain of the virus – is a separate laboratory process carried out after someone tests positive to COVID-19. All cases, regardless of strain, are managed by WA’s public health experts. The strains previously reported as the UK variant strain and South African variant strain will now be referred to as B.1.1.7 and B.1.351 respectively.
