COVID-19 update: Statement from WA Chief Health Officer

STATEMENT FROM WA CHIEF HEALTH OFFICER, DR ANDREW ROBERTSON

Since my provision of evidence to the Education and Health Standing Committee on 14 October 2020, there has been speculation and commentary over the health advice that I have provided to the Western Australian (WA) Government.

In response to the commentary, I would like to make the following points:

1. given the changing epidemiology and other emerging issues, the health advice provided is constantly being reviewed, revised and reissued;
2. my advice to the WA Government has been consistent about maintaining current border controls since border restrictions were implemented;
3. that advice has raised, for consideration and discussion only, possible future options if the epidemiology and national control measures were to change;
4. the WA Government has always accepted my advice; and
5. there is no other ‘secret’ or alternative advice being provided to the WA Government by me.
