COVID-19 update – 12 October 2020

The Department of Health has reported two new cases of COVID-19 in Western Australia overnight.

One of the confirmed cases is a male in his 50s who travelled to Perth from Indonesia. He is in hotel quarantine in Perth.

The second is a crewman from the Vega Dream – a bulk iron ore carrier anchored off Port Hedland. The man, in his 30s, is in isolation at the Hedland Health Campus and will be transferred to a State quarantine hotel in Perth.

Of the remaining 19 crew members on board the Vega Dream, six have today returned positive COVID-19 tests. The six confirmed cases are isolating on board the vessel – they will be counted in tomorrow’s case numbers.

The State has now recorded a total of 696 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

There are 16 active cases being monitored and 671 people have recovered from the virus in WA.

Yesterday 569 people presented to WA COVID-19 clinics – 551 were assessed and swabbed.

There have been 447,449 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those tested, 76,446 were from regional WA.
