The Department of Health has reported one new case of COVID-19 in Western Australia overnight, a man in his 30s who returned from overseas. He is in hotel quarantine.
This brings the total case count to 641.
This total is reduced from yesterday’s total of 668 because historical cases diagnosed through a blood test and indicative of infection in the past are no longer being reported in the daily report or in overall figures.
This change has been made to bring WA’s reporting closer into line with other Australian jurisdictions.
Including these cases in the overall case count is misleading as it does not reflect the burden on WA’s health system. Historical cases may have been ill many months previously and many will have experienced their illness overseas.
The 28 historical cases have been taken out of the total. However, in the interests of transparency, the Department will continue to publish historic cases on its website.
There are eight active cases in the State – six Western Australians, one from interstate and one from overseas.
To date, 624 confirmed cases have recovered from the virus in WA. The 28 historical cases are additional to this count.
Yesterday 390 people presented to WA COVID-19 clinics – 383 were assessed and 381 were swabbed.
There have been 249,789 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those tested, 42,074 were from regional WA.
