The Department of Health has reported zero new cases of COVID-19 in Western Australia overnight.
However, two historical cases based on serology were recorded overnight*. These cases are fully recovered and present no risk to the community.
This brings the total case count to 668, comprising 640 confirmed cases and 28 historical cases.
There are seven active cases in the State – five Western Australians, one from interstate and one from overseas.
To date, 624 confirmed cases have recovered from the virus in WA. The 28 historical cases are additional to this count.
WA is changing the way cases of COVID-19 are reported, bringing WA reporting closer into line with other Australian jurisdictions.
From today, daily reporting will include only confirmed cases diagnosed by nose and throat swabs. These changes will be reflected in tomorrow’s media statement, which will report on data from today – 1 August.
Historical cases (diagnosed through a blood test and indicative of infection in the past) are no longer infectious and present no risk to the community. Historical cases will be removed from the State total, meaning the total case count will decrease.
The Department will continue to publish historic cases on its website.
Yesterday 654 people presented to WA COVID-19 clinics – 639 were assessed and 635 were swabbed.
There have been 249,789 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those tested, 42,074 were from regional WA.
