Frozen meals recall warning

WA Health is urging consumers to check their freezers for Core Powerfoods frozen meals following 55 cases of Salmonella gastroenteritis reported nationally that have been linked to consumption of these products.

Nine of these cases were reported in Western Australia.

Core Powerfoods has issued a recall of a range of frozen meals with a best-before-date between 05/03/2020 and 4/10/2020. Core Powerfoods frozen meals in this date range have been removed from sale.  

The recall includes the following products in 310g or 350g packs:

• Going Nuts
• Deep South Chilli
• Muay Thai Meatballs
• Holy Meatballs
• Naked Chicken
• Seismic Chicken
• Old School
• Smokey Mountain Meatballs

WA Environmental Health Director Michael Lindsay recommended that people dispose of any of the products covered in the recall notice, or return to the place of purchase for a refund.

“Salmonella poses a serious risk to health, and symptoms of infection can begin anywhere between six and 72 hours after exposure,” he said.

“Symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, headaches, stomach cramps and loss of appetite. Symptoms usually last for three to seven days.  

“Anyone who develops the symptoms of Salmonella infection should seek medical advice.”

Frozen foods need to be cooked thoroughly and people are reminded to always follow the manufacturer’s cooking instructions on the food label.
