Development of a Service Plan for Genetic Health Western Australia
Genetic Health Western Australia (GHWA, formerly the Genetic Services of Western Australia) (external site) is the state-wide public clinical genetics service which provides genetic counselling, access to genetic testing and family planning support for people impacted or potentially impacted by genetic conditions. The Western Australian Department of Health and the Health Consumers’ Council (WA) Inc. are working with GHWA to co-design a service plan which will describe the key strategic priorities and future direction of the service over the next 10 years.
This project is a key deliverable for the implementation of the WA Genomics Strategy 2022-2032 (PDF 5.6MB).

The draft Genetic Health Western Australia Service Plan 2024-2029 (the Plan) has been informed by feedback received from over 300 GHWA stakeholders, including consumers and carers, GHWA staff, medical specialists and primary care providers, and representatives from patient organisations and Health Service Providers. The Plan outlines four service directions for GHWA to work towards over the next 5 years, each with underlying objectives and proposed actions for implementation.
You can read the draft Plan and provide your feedback on the document through a short survey which will be open between 6 and 31 May 2024.
This consultation is open to anyone interested in the future delivery of clinical genomic services in Western Australia.
All responses will remain confidential and will only be used to inform the final clinical service plan.
