Artists impression of the new Perth Children's Hospital
Western Australians have been given a sneak peek inside Perth Children's Hospital (PCH) through new 3D vision.
The animated fly-through footage of the hospital, now under construction at the QEII medical site in Nedlands, will be used to familiarise staff with the inside of the hospital before it opens its doors to the public later this year.
The computer-generated footage was developed using a building information modelling system that is designed to manage the high volume of complex information during the design, construction and commissioning of PCH. It highlights the hospital's design features, guides construction and allows for the mapping of patient and staff flows through the hospital. It is one of a number of programs under way to prepare for the move to the new hospital.
The fly-throughs also showcase many areas of the hospital, including the emergency department, patient ward areas, the operating theatres and clinical rooms.
When it opens later this year, Perth Children's Hospital will be one of six offering dedicated paediatric services: Fiona Stanley Hospital, St John of God Midland Public Hospital, Joondalup Health Campus, Armadale Kelmscott Memorial Hospital and Rockingham General Hospital.
