New heatwave warning system awareness campaign
New heatwave warning system awareness campaign
Western Australia has a new warning system to alert you to the health dangers of heatwaves. A heatwave is a period of unusually hot weather in an area, that lasts three days or more.
You will see the same alerts around the country for heatwaves and other hazards, as part of the Australian Warning System.
The Australian Warning System has three phases:
- Advice: Prepare now for a heatwave that will affect your area in the coming days. Stay up-to-date in case the situation changes.
- Watch and act: Conditions are changing. You need to start taking action and prepare for very hot conditions.
- Emergency warning: You need to act immediately. Drink water, stay indoors or seek out air-conditioned places. Be aware of heat stress, and check on family and friends, especially the elderly.
