What is the Aboriginal Cadetship Program?
WA Health’s Aboriginal Cadetship Program offers Aboriginal University students the opportunity to gain paid work experience in health, while studying an undergraduate degree.
The program provides the opportunity to develop your skills and abilities, establish personal and professional support networks, while discovering what a future career in the WA Health public sector could offer.
Growing the representation of Aboriginal people employed in the health workforce is a priority for WA Health. It is essential to delivering culturally appropriate heath services and improving Aboriginal health outcomes.

Who are we looking for?
- Motivated achievers who are interested in improving their job prospects and growing a future career in health.
- Students with good communication and interpersonal skills who have shown commitment and application to their studies.
- Aboriginal university students from a range of disciplines and degrees including but not limited to: business/commerce, finance, public health, social works, psychology, health sciences, information technology, medicine, nursing and midwifery, health promotion, law, allied health and many other fields.
Am I eligible to apply for the program?
To be considered for the program you must:
- commit to 52 days over a 12 months period of employment (staring Feb or July of each calendar year)
- be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree at a recognised university
- identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
Where will I be placed?
The cadetship offers placements at various WA Health sites in the metropolitan and regional areas across a range of professions.
If you are successful in being offered a cadetship, we will aim to place you in a Health Service that best aligns with your area of study, interests and location.
